feeling bloated? (it sucks, i know)

Let's be honest... bloating happens.

Sometimes it's because you've had one too many salty snacks over the weekend. Sometimes it's hormones. Sometimes you've eaten too quickly. Sometimes your stomach just decides today is the day it's going to feel like a balloon.

And if you're anything like me, it can leave you feeling uncomfortable, sluggish, and just a little "off."

Now, before we get into it, bloating is completely normal. It happens to everyone. This isn't about trying to have a perfectly flat stomach 24/7 because that's not realistic (or healthy).

For me, it's simply about supporting my digestion and helping my body feel comfortable again.

Here are five foods and drinks I genuinely love reaching for when I need a little reset.

1. Sparkling Water with Fresh Ginger

This has become one of my favourite little rituals.

There's something about pouring a cold sparkling water over fresh slices of ginger that feels incredibly refreshing.

Ginger has been used for centuries to support digestion because it helps food move through the digestive tract more efficiently and may reduce feelings of bloating and nausea. It also has natural anti-inflammatory properties, making it a simple ingredient that punches well above its weight.

Plus, if you're someone who reaches for fizzy drinks, this feels like a slightly more nourishing alternative.

It's simple, refreshing, and honestly just makes me feel like I've got my life together for five minutes.

2. Grilled Zucchini (or Zucchini Noodles)

I genuinely think zucchini is underrated.

It's one of those vegetables that somehow works with everything. Grill it with a little olive oil, add it to a pasta dish, or swap half your regular pasta for zucchini noodles if you're craving something a little lighter.

Zucchini is naturally high in water, which can support hydration and digestion, while being gentle on your stomach.

One of my favourite meals is mixing grilled zucchini into a bowl of pasta instead of trying to replace the pasta completely.

Because let's be honest...

Sometimes you want the pasta.

And that's okay.

Adding more vegetables instead of taking things away feels so much more sustainable than constantly trying to "eat perfectly."

3. Pineapple, Fennel & Arugula Salad

This combination sounds fancy, but it's honestly one of the easiest salads to throw together.

The sweetness from the pineapple, the slight crunch of fennel, and the peppery bite from arugula somehow just work.

Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that may help support protein digestion.

Fennel has long been associated with digestive comfort and may help reduce feelings of bloating.

Arugula adds fiber, vitamins, and freshness without feeling heavy.

It's one of those meals that leaves you feeling satisfied without that overly full feeling afterwards.

4. Papaya with a Squeeze of Lime

If you've never tried papaya with fresh lime, this is your sign.

Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which helps break down proteins and supports healthy digestion.

It's naturally sweet, incredibly refreshing, and feels especially good after a heavier meal.

The squeeze of lime just brightens everything up.

It's one of those snacks that feels like you're on holiday, even if you're just standing in your kitchen.

5. Chia Seeds with Almond Milk

This is one of my favourite make-ahead snacks.

Mix chia seeds with almond milk, leave them overnight, and by morning you've got a creamy pudding that's surprisingly filling.

Chia seeds are packed with fiber, which supports healthy digestion and helps keep things moving.

The key is making sure you're drinking enough water alongside them, since fiber works best when you're hydrated.

Top it with berries, cinnamon, or a drizzle of honey if you're feeling fancy.

It's simple, satisfying, and one of those breakfasts that leaves you feeling energized instead of sluggish.

I've learned that bloating usually isn't something I need to "fight."

It's usually my body trying to tell me something.

Maybe I've eaten too quickly.

Maybe I've had a weekend full of takeaways.

Maybe my hormones are doing their thing.

Instead of panicking or reaching for a quick fix, I try to support my body with foods that make me feel good.

Not because they promise a flat stomach.

But because they help me feel lighter, more comfortable, and more like myself.

And I think that's a much healthier goal.

Because wellness isn't about chasing perfection.

It's about learning what helps your body thrive, and coming back to those habits whenever you need a little reset.
