how to stay hydrated at music festivals (it's almost coachella)

I love a good outdoor festival, they're so fun. I mean who doesn't love sunny weather, good music, and dancing with your friends. I won't be going to Coachella (I know I'm so lame lol) but for my USA readers, let’s be honest, Coachella looks like a total dream on Instagram, but in reality? It’s long days, lots of walking, heat, dust, and very little control over your environment.

And that’s exactly why being prepared matters.

Because the goal isn’t just to look good in photos, it’s to actually feel good, stay comfortable, and have fun the whole time.

Here are three ways to make that happen:

1. Dress for Comfort First, Aesthetic Second:

Yes, Coachella is known for the outfits. But the people who are actually enjoying themselves? They’re the ones who aren’t adjusting their clothes every five seconds or regretting their shoe choices by hour three.

Comfort doesn’t have to mean boring, it just means intentional.

Think:

  • Breathable fabrics
  • Shoes you can actually walk in
  • Outfits that don’t require constant fixing

Because nothing kills the vibe faster than being uncomfortable, overheating, or dealing with something that just doesn’t sit right all day.

You want to be able to dance, sit on the grass, walk between stages, and not think twice about what you’re wearing.

When you’re comfortable, you’re present, and that’s where the fun actually happens.

2. Hydration Is Non-Negotiable:

This sounds obvious, but it’s the thing people underestimate the most.

You’re in the sun for hours. You’re walking a lot. You’re dancing, talking, and just generally doing more than you realize.

Dehydration doesn’t just make you thirsty, it can make you feel:

  • tired
  • irritable
  • and honestly, just… off

And that completely changes your experience.

So make hydration part of your plan:

  • Drink water consistently throughout the day
  • Add electrolytes if you can
  • Don’t wait until you feel thirsty

Staying hydrated keeps your energy up, your mood more stable, and your body functioning properly, which means you can actually enjoy the music instead of counting down until you can sit down.

3. Pace Yourself (You Don’t Have to Do Everything):

One of the biggest mistakes at any music festival is trying to do everything.

Every set. Every moment. Every plan. Every person.

But the reality is, festivals are long, and your energy is not unlimited.

So instead of trying to maximize every second, think about what actually matters to you:

  • Which artists do you really want to see?
  • Where do you want to spend your energy?
  • When do you want to take breaks?

Because rest isn’t missing out, it’s what allows you to actually enjoy the moments you do choose to be present for.

Sit down when you need to.
Leave a set early if you’re tired.
Take a break in the shade.

You’re not there to perform exhaustion, you’re there to enjoy yourself.

Coachella (or any outdoor festival) isn’t about pushing through and proving you can “do it all.”

It’s about the experience.

And the people who seem to have the best time? They’re not doing more than everyone else, they’re just taking care of themselves while they’re there.

So if you’re going this year, go in with intention.

Dress comfortably. Stay hydrated. Pace yourself.

Because when you actually feel good, everything else, the music, the people, the moments,, hits so much better.

And that’s the whole point.
